Job Description

The British High Commission, Technical Works Group has a vacancy for an LE IV Electrician.

Overall Purpose:
To assist the Technical Works Supervisor maintain and improve the electrical infrastructure of the estate.

Scope:
Electrical installation, repairs and improvements of offices, staff amenities and 42 residential properties to ensure that the estate is electrically safe, functional and compliant with UK standards.

Reporting to:  Technical Works Co-ordinator

Principal Duties:
By example and not limited to:

  • Prepare properties for occupancy
  • Domestic rewiring
  • Upgrade distribution boards
  • Electrical installation of small appliances e.g. ceiling fans, water heaters etc
  • Fault finding e.g. ceiling fans, water heaters etc
  • Electrical intervention on office ac plant
  • Carrying out pre occupancy inspections of residences
  • Carry out periodic electrical testing
  • Carry out PAT testing
  • Electrical installation of generators
  • Generator electrical system repairs i.e. transfer switches, control panels including peripherals, alternators and fuel transfer systems
  • Assist as required (and reasonable) in any other property maintenance

Information for applicants:

  • The monthly salary range for LE4 positions in the BHC is GHc 801 (rising in increments of GHc33 based on performance to a maximum of GHc1263) The starting salary for this position is Ghc 801
  • The appointment will be offered initially for one year, and subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period. Thereafter, the appointment may be renewed for 3 years, subject to satisfactory performance, by mutual agreement.

Required Skills or Experience

The skills/attributes of the successful applicant will include:
Background

  • Must have a minimum of an HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Experience and qualifications in UK electrical standards and practice would be an advantage
  • Working knowledge of UK health and safety practice
  • Experience in a similar role would be an advantage
  • Good IT skills (MS Office)

Type of person:

  • Be self motivating, self starting and autonomous
  • Good organisational skills allied to the ability to setup and launch new systems and procedures
  • Ability to question and improve on the status quo

The successful applicant will need to:

  • Observe the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's diversity and equality policies
  • Show some flexibility over working hours

The successful applicant will demonstrate that they meet the requirements under Ghanaian law to work in Ghana, and to pass (or have passed) BHC internal security clearance.
