Golden Star Resources has engineering jobs in Ghana to recruit for Mechanical Superintendent. We are a growing Company with two operating mines in Ghana and other projects at various stages of development. The Company's Bogoso/Prestea operations, located 10km south of the town of Bogoso in the Western Region of Ghana, is in the process of expanding with the commissioning of a new BIOX Plant in 2007. To supplement its open pit production, the Company is evaluating the feasibility of resuming Underground operations.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the section maintenance programme based on best practices with an emphasis on planning and scheduling;
  • Review the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly to minimise unplanned downtime, anticipate solutions to problems in a timely manner and identify  opportunities for improvement
  • Communicate directly with Metallurgy Department in maintaining the process areas;
  • Prepare, administer and monitor section budget;
  • Develop, implement and monitor short and long term plans, goals and objectives focused on achieving the department's mission and assigned priorities;
  • Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge and contribution of the Maintenance Supervisors and Technicians;
  • Ensure Maintenance Technicians are adequately trained, equipped and motivated so that the maintenance programme can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost effective manner;
  • Manage the condition monitoring of all equipment and report all risks derived from the monitoring performed in a timely and user friendly format;
  • Initiate and carry out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs;
  • Champion safety health and environmental policies and procedures;
  • Ensure Minerals Commission and Machinery Inspection regulations relating to the maintenance department are met at all times; and
  • Perform any other related duties assigned from time to time by supervisor

Required Skills or Experience

  • Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering with at least ten (10) years process plant maintenance experience, six (6) of which must be in a supervisory capacity; 
  • Ability to apply knowledge of standards, methods and procedures to work situation;
  • Ability to troubleshoot, align, rebuild, lubricate and maintain all fixed plant rotating equipment;
  • Ability to maintain and calibrate technical equipment;
  • Ability to create STPs for all mechanical related jobs in the process plant;
  • Excellent environmental, hazard identification and risk management skills;
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must possess valid and current Ghanaian driving licence
